OUR CORNERSTONE CLASSES
THE FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN LIVING
THE FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN LIVING
Cornerstone is a study consisting of a series of lessons on some of the foundational principles of Christian living. We believe that these lessons encompass some of the essential building blocks of our Christian faith, hence the name “Cornerstone” (ie something of basic importance, essential, indispensable a foundation).
We believe that this study will benefit not only new believers but also Christians who have been in the faith for a while. To the new believer we hope it will be a journey of discovery and to the established believer one of rediscovery.
What do we hope to achieve?
Through Cornerstone we seek to equip the believer by “working” the word into his/her life thus placing him/her in the position to understand and correctly explain the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15 NLT). This we believe will enable the believer to live a fruitful and vibrant life. Strengthened to stand at all times through all the changing scenes of life.
We sincerely hope that you enjoy your time with us and that you find the study beneficial.
Through Cornerstone we hope to:
Matthew 7:24-27 (Key Verse)
“Anyone who listens to my teachings and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” (NLT)
From this scripture it is apparent that, as believers; as we are building our lives, we need to build on the right foundation as the storms will come and when they do, they tend to come from all directions.
From this scripture it is also made plain that how we handle the word determines the type of foundation we build on:
So let’s hear the conclusion of the matter:
“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit – but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”(MSG)
Therefore we intend Cornerstone not to be a place where we just use scriptures in Bible studies but rather a place where the word is worked into our lives.
