Absolute Dominion
3. Our Divine Covenant
When a covenant is made, the participants exchange identity, strength, weapons, blood and names. Unlike a blessing, which can be a solitary occurrence, a covenant, especially one with the Most High God, is never broken. To exercise dominion, therefore, during challenging times, we ought to rely on our covenant with God and fight tooth and nail for that which belongs to us. If we relinquish our territory to the enemy, we become victims. As Christians, we have to reign over our environment and ignore the obstacles, which we encounter.
Isaiah 45:14 states that, ‘…in chains shall they come over, and they shall fall down unto thee.…’ God lives in us and has put so much at our disposal to ensure that we succeed inspite of ourselves.
4. Dominion vs. Failure
There are innumerable ‘obstacles’ that we can admit defeat to, such as our circumstances, our jobs, people’s comments, etc. We do this is if we place a higher value on these obstacles than we do on our Heavenly Father. As a chosen people, we have to transform every ‘setback’ into a ‘stepping stone to greatness’. We fail when we refuse to dream. We fail when we do not set goals. We fail when we refuse to rise after we fall. When we give up on life, we relinquish our right to control our territory.
Romans 6:14 says, ‘For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace…’ On occasion, we admit defeat, however this does not mean that we no longer have dominion over our territory. God promised us in Zephaniah 3:20, ‘…for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth…’ Proverbs 24:16 simply reminds us to rise up every time that we fall. There is no excuse for capitulating when God has equipped us to succeed.
5. You are sovereign
Proclaim sovereignty. Proverbs 18:21 says that ‘…death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof…’ Our speech can be likened to potent seeds, which either curse or bless. God spoke and established creation and likewise we shall decree a thing and shall be established (Job 22:28). May our words establish our divine destiny.
This month, be assertive and learn to control your environment. In doing so, you will subdue every obstacle in your path and receive your blessings. You were created to succeed because He, who lives within you is far greater he, who lives in the world. Until next month, remember that God is omnipotent and with Him, there is no encumbrance that we cannot surmount.
