Welcome to WT New Believers Page,

This page is here to help you get a deeper understanding of the amazing decision you
have made to follow Jesus Christ and to support you on your journey to knowing God more.

If you’ve just said the prayer of salvation congratulations because you are now saved (Romans 10:8-10). The bible also calls it ‘Born again’ and you are now a child of God. God is now your Father! Take a moment to ponder how powerful these truths are. After you’ve received Christ, there are important things you need to know and understand on this new journey. Maybe for you, it’s not a new journey but rather resuming the journey you got away from; the information below is still important to know.

Why Salvation?

At the beginning, God created human beings for relationship with Him. Through the deception of Satan in the form of a serpent, man disobeyed God causing sin and death to come on the earth (Romans 5:12). So human beings inherited a nature to sin, causing us to fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and be separated from Him. So without God, all human beings are dead spiritually and living in darkness and would ultimately have to pay for the penalty of their sin in hell. So the only way for God to save us and restore us back to relationship with Himself was for our sins to be paid for and for us to receive a new life. Jesus came as God’s answer; born from a virgin so without sin in his nature, he was crucified on a cross. Jesus paid the full penalty for our sins on that cross, died, was buried and rose again as proof that our sins were buried. Now the bible says anybody who would believe in Jesus, putting their faith (trust) in what Jesus did for us, they will receive remissions for their sins and be saved. “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 NLT)”.

You are a new Creation!

The moment you said the prayer of Salvation, believing in your heart to receive Christ, the bible says you became a ‘New Creation’ (2 Corinthians 5:17). What does this mean? Often time, when people received Christ, they felt something different on the inside but then as they resume their daily life the feeling seems to go or they may think the same way they used to think or have the same struggles they use to have. This experience discourages them and they eventually come to the conclusion that ‘receiving Christ didn’t work’ or ‘I don’t feel like a new creation’. The truth is you are now a new creation, transformed by the life of Christ in you. However, this transformation occurred in your spirit. The bible says that you are a spirit, who has a soul and lives in a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). When you said the prayer of Salvation, it was your spirit that was ‘Born again’ or ‘recreated’ or transformed into a new creation (person). Your body or soul (mind, will & emotions) didn’t change so you will most likely have some thoughts or weaknesses you used to have. Notwithstanding, some habits, addictions or struggles can cease the moment you receive Christ.

You are now Righteous!

When you came into Christ, you have now received the Gift of Righteousness (Romans 5:17). So you are not righteous based on how good or bad you live as a Christian. Righteousness simply means ‘right standing or right relationship’ with God. Often times, there’s a confusion between right living and righteousness. You are not righteous because you live right; rather you are righteous because God has made you righteous when you put your trust in Jesus Christ to receive him into your heart. God has now given you the ability to stand in relationship with him as a GIFT rather than your own performance or ability to live right. The amazing truth about the gift of righteousness is that it produces in you the ability to live right! Hallelujah.

You have Eternal Life!

When you prayed the prayer of Salvation, eternal life came immediately into your spirit (heart). John 3:16 says that “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (NLT)”. Eternal life is not just living forever in heaven although it includes that. Eternal life is the life and nature of God. This life comes into your spirit and makes it possible for you to know God and Jesus in an intimate way (John 17:3). So you have eternal life now! This is the life that produces the new birth or transformation on the inside.

You are in the Kingdom of God now!

Now that you are born again, you are a citizen in the Kingdom of God now. This is exciting because although you live on this earth, you are in a spiritual Kingdom at the same time. The bible says that before you were born again or saved, you lived in the Kingdom of darkness (Colossians 1:13) but now you have been rescued and transported into the Kingdom of God.

Living the Christian Life

Now that you are in relationship with God your Father through Jesus Christ, it is important to cultivate and nurture this relationship. This is done through many different elements designed by God. These include:

  • Prayer
  • Reading the Bible
  • Attending Church
  • Cultivating Relationships with other Christians
  • Serving

To understand more of these elements, please register for the Cornerstone Classes. This is WT’s foundational and membership classes which teach the fundamentals of the Christian life.

Remember that relationship with God is a long journey which requires patience. The bible likens it to being in a race which is to be run with patience (Hebrews 12:1). Importantly, this race is not against others but rather your own individual race. This means that you shouldn’t compare yourself with other Christians because we are all at different stages in our own race. Run your own race, at your own pace with patience.

What about Trials and Temptations?

Becoming a Christian doesn’t exempt you from going through trials and temptations. On the contrary, the bible informs us that we will go through difficulties but it ultimately works for our good. “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation (Romans 5:3-4)”. During trials and temptation, know that God is still with you and hasn’t abandoned you. Refuse to believe the lie that God has left you in the heat alone. The bible says God will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
